-Helix Program-
A concrete plan
—unique in the world—to achieve
“practical power generation.”
The Helix Program is a national-scale project to achieve “practical power generation” in the 2030s by creating a new energy industry through cross-regional, cross-industry collaboration.
The Helix Program, and its two milestones: the Integrated Demonstration Device “Helix HARUKA” and the first power-generating plant “Helix KANATA.”
Building on 70 years of accumulated knowledge, we are beginning a new chapter to open a new era of energy.
MESSAGE

Rising electricity demand.
Unstoppable global warming.
And reliance on overseas energy.
The key to answering these challenges—
is the commercialization of fusion energy.
“Bringing the sun’s vast energy to Earth.”
That is our challenge.
Long called a dream,
fusion has moved beyond decades of national research
and is steadily becoming real.
To realize this frontier technology,
we need more than expertise.
We need the full strength of Japan’s manufacturing.
We believe the Helix Program is
a major step toward the future—
one Japan should take as an all-hands effort.
And we can see the future where
another sun born in Japan
keeps lighting the world, far beyond the horizon.

What is “Practical Power Generation”?

In the 2030s, achieve “year-round operation” and “net electricity” for the first time in the world.
Meet three requirements to be accepted as a practical power-generation system.

Meet three requirements to be accepted as a practical power-generation system.
1

Net electricity
able to supply sufficient electricity externally
2

Steady-state operation
stable operation,
365 days a year
3

Maintainability
high uptime with short maintenance periods

Helix HARUKA/
Helix KANATA

From element demos to commercialization:
a two-step model
We advance commercialization in two stages: the Integrated Demonstration Phase (Helix HARUKA) and the Commercial Phase (Helix KANATA).
Helix HARUKA: around 2030
Helix HARUKA is a compact Integrated Demonstration Device to quickly resolve key technical issues for the larger first plant, Helix KANATA. It integrates and demonstrates all required systems—centered on the two core engineering items remaining for the helical-type reactor: the High-Temperature Superconducting Magnet and the Blanket & Divertor System—along with heating systems, power supplies, and more, handing off readiness to power generation.
Helix KANATA: 2030s
Helix KANATA receives the baton from Helix HARUKA and establishes the three requirements for “practical power generation”: net electricity, steady-state operation, and maintainability.
Helix KANATA is not just a power facility—it will be a symbol that transforms how humanity obtains energy.
“Prove with Helix HARUKA, deliver with Helix KANATA.”
Helical Fusion’s challenge is the process of building technology and shaping the future.
