On June 24, 2025, Takuya Goto, Co-Founder and Vice CTO of Helical Fusion, delivered an invited talk at the Symposium on Fusion Engineering (SOFE) held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He presented the company’s latest progress and approach to commercial fusion reactor design.

SOFE is a leading international conference focused on fusion engineering, organized by the Fusion Technology Standing Committee of the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS), part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Hosted this year by MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), the symposium is held approximately every two years and highlights engineering challenges related to realizing fusion energy.
SOFE gathers a wide range of researchers and engineers from academia, research institutes, and industry. In addition to covering physics, engineering, and materials science, the conference also provides a rare platform where key private-sector players come together to exchange ideas and discuss practical pathways toward commercialization.
This was Helical Fusion’s first appearance at SOFE, and it marked a milestone opportunity to raise global visibility as the private company pursuing a steady-state net power fusion plant by Helical-stellarator.
