On September 19, 2025, Helical Fusion Co., Ltd. was officially recognized as a “NINS Venture” by the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS), one of Japan’s leading scientific research organizations comprising five major institutes, including the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS). The certification ceremony was held at NINS, with the title presented by President Prof. Maki Kawai.

Helical Fusion was founded on more than 20 years of fusion research knowledge from NIFS, a world-class national laboratory dedicated to fusion science. Since its establishment, we have pursued the Helix Program, aiming to realize the world’s first commercially viable net power fusion plant in the 2030s. Our near-term plan, Helix HARUKA, will serve as a demonstration device for integrating key technologies within the next five years.
Two of the most important challenges—developing liquid metal blanket systems for energy extraction and tritium breeding, and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets for compact, stable confinement—are being advanced in close collaboration with NIFS.
NINS, as a consortium of inter-university research institutes, plays a central role in pioneering global science in fields including astronomy, energy, materials, and life sciences. The certification as a NINS Venture will allow Helical Fusion to further strengthen ties with NIFS and other institutes, accelerating the path toward commercial fusion energy.
